Since seeing a tensegrity table - aka floating table - for the first time, I was fascinated with the optical illusion it creates. The top and bottom seem to just hover in place while the corner cables defy gravity and hold everything up instead of crumpling. I knew I had to try my hand at building one… but with my own spin on the design.
Build out of white oak and steel cable, the two halves of this end table hover about an inch away from each other. The top cutout, with plexiglass insert, gives a unique view into the illusion of the floating ends. Finished with a durable polyurethane, this table provides not only a functional piece of furniture, but a visually engaging one as well.
